Because this is a Rec Committee sponsored program, we have a $35* a year fee (June - May, non refundable nor prorated). All fees go to support the drama guild as a whole and are used toward any and all productions.
*Although there is a charge to belong to the Guild, auditions will remain open to the public for major productions.
What is the purpose in the adult troop?
Our first few meetings will encompass what direction we would like the group to go. While the founders, Tom and Diane, have a vision we know that the success of the troop will depend on the ideas and motivation of the troop members. We ask that everyone take an active roll in "pointing us in the right direction." This is YOUR troop - be a part of it!
What will be doing at the meeting?
Once we are done "the business end" of the troop meeting, we will work on acting techniques, character development, directing, learning to stage a production, etc. Rehearsals for our production will not have a bearing on the troops scheduled meetings. **Those of you interested in teaching, please contact Tom at Tom@hdgdramatroop so he can schedule your class.
What is the troop in need of?
Besides being in need of motivated individuals, we will always need of actors, stage crew, stage/set construction, costumers and directors for our productions. For our regular bi-weekly/monthly meetings we will need people who want to help lead and teach drama. No experience necessary!! You do not have to live in Havre de Grace, Harford County or Maryland to belong to the guild or participate in our productions and other activities. This troop is open to all without prejudice of any kind. Come be a part of the fun!
What type of productions will we do and how will we do them?
Obviously, at this time we have no stage, although we can rent the stages at various schools etc. The majority of our productions will center around dinner theatre, mystery theatre, etc. We are looking to purchase a portable stage in the near future. We do NOT want to compete with other current playhouses or troops in our area, so we will work hard at not having that happen. We want to be an enhancement to the arts in Harford county and Havre de Grace.
We secured the rights to The Great American Trailer Park Musical.
Due to adult language, we are seeking the rights to change certain wording so that we may abide by the policies of the HDG Recreation Committee. MORE INFO TO FOLLOW.
This hilarious musical takes place at Armadillo Acres, where a stripper on the run named Pippi has just moved in, wreaking havoc among the other tenants. Jeannie hasn’t left her trailer in almost 20 years, since her baby was stolen. While she tries to take her first steps into the world, hubby Norbert takes up with stripper Pippi who is on the lam from her psycho, magic marker-sniffing boyfriend, Duke. If you have read Oedipus Rex, then you will find yourself in somewhat familiar surroundings. Who would believe that a Greek tragedy could be turned into a hilarious trailer trash musical comedy? This show is definitely considered "blue" and a bit off color, but even the "f-bombs" fit this campy musical. The scary part.... everyone will recognize at least one friend or relative written into this script!! Trailer Park was first produced at the annual New York Musical Theatre Festival and currently, this musical is on a cross country tour!! We are working on two different ways to stage this hilarious musical - stage or dinner theatre? We are working on it! Some pre-casting is already done. Auditions will be held in early September for all other parts. Here are some of the reviews:
"Sparkling like aluminum siding, this campy, caustic musical fable is ripe with adultery, strippers, murderous ex-boyfriends, Costco, and the Ice Capades. Complete with a trashy Greek chorus of trailer park divas, Armadillo Acres is Florida’s most exclusive mobile home community. But when a stripper on the run comes between an agoraphobic housewife and her tollbooth collector husband, the hurricane of laughter begins to brew. “...a wheel-spinning, mud-splattering good time of a show... the theatrical equivalent of a bag of Doritos. You can’t get enough.” - Talkin’ Broadway.
"There couldn’t be a better tourism pitch for Northern Florida than 'The Great American Trailer Park Musical.' Fuel costs being what they are, you can get a 90-minute panorama of ‘Merica – the cul de sac (or, in this case trailer park Armadillo Acres), the strip club, the toll booth, the road kill, the hurricane, the mullets, the mall. I am so there. "- Jackie Demaline, Cincinnatti Enquirer.
"... thanks to [Betsy Kelso'S] cheeky script, an infectious score by David Nehls, we leave the theater wanting to plead for mercy for the undeserving trailer sinners - every last marker-sniffin', spray can-huffin', pole-dancin', bathrobe wearin', spouse-cheatin' one of them..... this white-trash dumpster sparkles with treasure...... it's not "West Side Story." If you read Us Weekly and let your channel rest on 'Entertainment Tonight' from time to time, do you deserve better? Do you even want better? Sometimes, as bad as it gets is as good as it gets." - LIESL SCHILLINGER, The New York Sun
